I'm in the Volvo main dealer tomorrow to price up a new 2014MY grill, I can ask how much one for a car with ACC would be?? I have a list of parts I need from my upgrade list while I'm in the mood for spending money on the car lol.

I apply my ceramics with those round makeup pads you can get loads of from the pound shop, it's so you don't have too big an application surface and the sealant doesn't crystallise too fast. Also iirc GTech bottles don't have the little droppers in them (well they didn't) so don't knock one over lol. I cure it on with hair dryer after application a panel at a time. It gives an as new satin finish without being tacky. HTH

Great

If you wAnt to feel better about the cost of your grill, ask for a price on mine....then lay down for a while hehehe.

Having been reading some more I might try the car pro DLUX you have used, I recon I need 30ml minimum for our cars. The cost of it beats the c4 and given your result it look great. Also it has the dropper, I know what I'm like with 2k when I'm spraying !

Thanks for all the tips I'm lucky I can keep the car in the garage whilst it dries so no problem with it air curing or will use my electric fan heater to build up the heat.

Any issues with this stuff after it wears off, do you have to use the same product again or can you go back to a silicone based product like concept?

Cheers

Yeah once you've used it you can top it up with any silica spray, it's not that fussy. I tend to avoid anything petroleum distillate based like a tyre shine. You could use CarPro PERL also which is cheap to buy. GTech has the outright edge but for cost the CarPro range is so close it's worth it. It also cures at a lower temperature, better for our mild climate lol. DLUX makes an awesome tyre shine too btw.

I used a CarPro cube with my car and for £20 for 9 sample it's well worth it to try. I was very impressed with Fog Fight but I've used it before so no surprise and the SO2 Pure air freshener has defiantly kept the doggy smell at bay. Laura stood in a turd (clever isn't she) and bought it into the car; I wiped the mat with a wet wipe which was all we had on standby and it came clean thanks to the GTech I1 fabric guard and it didn't leave a smell thanks to the SO2 Pure and that's on the thick pile carpet mats not rubber ones! Also Hydr02 is incredible and so easy to use. Most CarPro products are also dilutable so cost effective. The CQuartz UK edition 10ml sample was on offer on Clean Your Car a while back and is really good. I did my black 407SW with it and the beading was out of this world. My mothers old Merc took to it well too (GTech I1 on the roof and 2 coats of reload applied 24 hours apart)

50 hours of machine polishing went into that car!! It was surprisingly rust free too haha

Okie dokes

Had a loss of power issue today and was at the main dealers anyway so the car was hooked up to VIDA and the codes read. We have an EGR and Throttle body code showing and an estimate for £1100 to fix it!!! Hahahaha I don't think so. If the wind isn't too bad tomorrow, out will come the EGR assy. and the throttle body for cleaning and if that doesn't work then new parts from eBay (at less than half the main dealer price) will be ordered and fitted I found both throttle body and EGR for less than £300 new.

The grill quote was also £300 so once the car is back with all its horses in use I'll order one in for it

TTR, an ACC enabled grill was 'about' £350 but they'd have to check with the reg from a 14MY car with ACC to be double sure

Let me fix my faults first and I'll be back there in no time!!!

I tried to take the EGR out of mine to clean it soon after I bought it, gave up in the end as it's so damn hard! The mounting bolts go into the EGR from the bulkhead side which makes access to them nigh on impossible unless you strip away most of the top of the engine. Removing the injectors requires new seals at £40 per injector, so this might explain some of the cost you have been given. If you do find a way of getting it off easier, then please try and do a guide. I'm sure there are a few people who would like to remove their EGR and clean it.

The grill quote is stupid. I bought a Large Emblem Style with ACC, see here, for £130 from Rufe 2 years ago. The XC70 grill is a different shape but I would expect the price to be similar.

Tbf I didn't actually mind the idea of £300 on the grill considering it's a Volvo main dealer! The estimate was actually nearly £800 in parts! The labour was 2 hours at £85 per hour. Quote and fault codes below

Planing on the strip down this afternoon, watch this space

Good luck, if your weather is anything like ours, the rain should have clean in no time.

I had the car inside today and out came the throttle body which made a hell of noise on start up so I decided to put it all back and order another one before tackling the EGR system so I'm working one fault at a time. When the new throttle body arrives (£80 from a breaker instead of £478 for a new one from Volvo!!) I'll strip the old one down and my guess is that the gears inside are worn down. Wouldn't surprise me

So that's where we are there, it all looks very dirty in there so out came the scrapers and the cleaning tools and the carbon deposits were quickly removed whilst I was there. The EGR assy. looks fun to remove so I'll see on that one, tbh I've never had a diesel without an EGR fault code so I'm hoping just the throttle body will do the trick. We shall see

Sasha94

First HNY to you.

Thanks for the feedback on the grille...... I thought it would be more in fairness. If the car behaves a while I may treat myself because the new emblem grille look great IMO.

Shame about the TB and EGR, my shogun EGR needed to come out and get a good clean, that was an easy one to do. No idea on the Volvos to be honest. Good to see you got the TB out ok.

Ordered the carpro stuff, just need for it to stop raining, it's been a bit damp in Yorkshire of late!!!!!!

Cheers all

Happy new year to you and yours as well

Yeah the grille wasn't overly bad in price haha. Yeah the EGR has had a cursory clean in situ and I got a load of carbon out of it! The new TB is here next week and it should fix the awful noise on startup and hopefully bring everything to normal. If it needs a new EGR it can have one

It drives fine just not as sprightly as a D5 should!
