I reckon there will be a fair few, they tend to keep on going and dont seem to suffer with the dreaded tin worm too much! I see a few round my home town that seem to be in reasonable condition, bet they dont get on here.

Have a look at this website which gives pass/fail MOT figures. e.g. there were only 656 MOT passes for 1986 740s in 2007.
http://www.ukmot.com/Reasons%20for%2...&car_model=740

I do find it confusing that 2 1997 740s passed their MOT.

You can compare the number of MOT'd cars to the number produced in that year.
http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/history/...ats_search.php

Worryingly, as those MOT figures are from 2007, and the scrappage scheme has been and gone, there may not be many around now.

could be that they've been either re-registered or imported and registered?

well, over 55% on my year alone. Thats an interesting site old blue and thats in the uk alone so i guess we can safely say a fair few amount.
Im not so sure the scrappage scheme was a complete success with the trouble times we've been throu. Think it came in at the wrong time really.

we've still got one!

On the subject of the 2 1997 740s that passed mots, it doesnt surprise me. i spen this week in a garage doing work experience, and the number os MOTs we did that the computer came up with a load of rubbish on. We had one series 1 86inch landrover, that was down as a 1968 Defender 130!

the DVLA computer really could do with some improvement me thinks.

good to see that theres still a fair few of these going though.

I used to have a 740 turbo diesel saloon. A trusty machine it was too. One of the few car I have sold on intact! I didn't stray too far and several 940's have followed. Has any body seen H71 GDP lately. I believe it is possible to look up whether reg. no.s are still in use does any body know where?
