From personal experience :-

Gatwick to Norwich, full battery at start, 47 mpg - 149 miles and 2h 53m.
Norwich to Gatwick, empty battery at start, 36 mpg - 153 miles and 2h 43m.

Generally doing the speed limit on each leg. Difference in mileages due to slightly different start and end points but M23, M25 and M11/A11 used both ways.

Current mpg since I reset it after having home charger installed is 54. It was up at 72 until I started doing much longer trips with no destination or overnight charging opportunities.

However, if you’re hoping for more than 100mpg prepare to be disappointed. If the battery is kept topped up, expect to see around 70mpg over a mixed route, or 30-40mpg on the motorway over a long journey. Not bad for a large petrol car, but a long way short of the official figures. Yikes.

The question is, does the low cost midweek on electric only cancel out the horror or a 400 mile roundtrip getting somewhere in the 30's when I am used to 52-55mpg in my current car? I can see a spreadsheet beckoning.
Do they do a diesel hybrid? Would seem to be the sweet spot if they did. 🤔

Wash your mouth out, diesel is a swear word now. Didn't you know that?

No is the answer. Some may but part of the move for mfrs to plug ins is to drop the BIK for company car tax. Using a diesel hybrid would put the emissions back in the high bracket so there is no point. It is petrol or nothing on the whole.

That is just the type of thing I am looking for, thank you. For my longer trips there is limited to no chance of overnight charging and I am not sure 15 minutes at a service station is going to give me much of a boost. Those figures are just about the only honest ones I have seen so far.

I read a report last week that said that latest gen diesel engines are now so clean that in heavily polluted areas they actually played a part in cleaning the air! 🕵️

Anyway, apropos of, something,

There is the Mercedes C Class diesel electric model available as a saloon and estate with C02 emissions of 38-42g/km.

My wee diesel tractor continues whisking me about north of 60, sometimes 70 mpg. Dirty polluting menace that it is

yup, infact the my display pic is the badge of the Volvo one! although you none of the current range has plugin diesel hybrids only mild which is a shame as I reckon the VEA with a plugin diesel with the newer 8speed box would be excellent on fuel, having the older 2.4 with the not so great 6 speed auto box really affects economy in my mind, but i'm more than happy with what you get considering the power you have behind it

There are also a few French diesel hybrids, but not plugin.
