Thanks - clear that I am currently being fobbed-off by both Volvo and the supplying dealer - was suggested by Volvo that I contact the Motor Ombudsman, which doesn't suggest a proactive approach to customer service.

Car is a 16MY Inscription, 20" wheels and air suspension.

Mine had only done a few 1000 miles when replaced as I raised the issue early on. For some strange reason this issue seems to be unique to the XC90 D5 with 20" wheels, which may well be resolved now for the newer cars.
I do not know your history with the car and not sure how many miles you have done on the existing tyres, if quite a lot then maybe it would be more difficult to obtain replacements at no cost. The B Pillar mod should be no issue though as there is a TJ out for it.

The issue was raised when new, car has only done 2k miles. The B-pillar work has been recently been carried out.

While early cars were undoubtedly noisier than current ones that have the pillar mod and are fitted with Contisilent tyres, there is still road noise on some surfaces. Of course there is. Nearly all cars suffer from it to varying degrees.

With mine at least, the road noise is no worse yet than with many other cars I've owned. I say "yet", because all the noisier cars, including a Range Rover and a Q7, went considerably noisier as the tyres wore down. The Volvo has yet to wear significantly and so is relatively silent compared to the worse point on the above vehicles.

Yes, I base my assessment on normal roads and ignore the obvious noisy roads that affect all cars. Including the real bad roads that will cloud the issue.

As you will se if you look back at my previous post on this issue I complained to my dealer and emailed Volvo UK from early on in my ownership last July. It took almost 5 months and 5000 miles before I got it resolved - Volvo paid for Contisilent's to be fitted but I paid a contribution of £ 150.00.

The car is certainly much quieter than it was on the replacements.

Keep pushing your dealer and Volvo UK - they are aware there is a problem.

It is, this remains unresolved - as I understand it the MY17 cars are built with the B-pillar changes (or something similar).

I drive quite a few different cars on a regular basis and the road/tyre/suspension/whatever it is noise in this one is unacceptable.

Give them a choice. Sort it or take it back. Perhaps its too late for the latter course though. Hopefully if they see that you are serious, persistent but reasonable, they will galvanise into some kind of resolute action on your behalf. I mean the selling/servicing dealer here of course, although Volvo themselves have an interest in keeping you as a satisfied customer.

If not, reciprocate the lack of interest in the product in future.

Handing it back would be great, given that it has apparently depreciated by £20,000 over 2,000 miles...

I will get it sorted one way or another, but it's not something a buyer of a £60,000 car should need to be arguing about.
