At this point I'm not sure for how long will I keep my car.. it's already been a good 4 years I think, already. Reason why I keep getting used parts from breakers, but I only look for Volvo/Sachs/Lemforder brands and double check the stamped year. I like this way of refurbishing. More than once a Volvo owner has spend a small fortune on suspension parts only to find his transmission failed months after... we can say the new-ish parts he put on his car have find some extended use

That being said, I am not thrilled any more that much about Sachs struts/shocks... people rave about them and I respect their opinion but I would only recommend original Volvo struts as replacement for those cars that are meant to keep running for a bunch of years.

I had been oggling a 65 plate V70 D4 with 25k miles on the clock. Decided to go for a test drive then buy it if it was all square. Not long into the 75 mile journey to get there and I get a phone call to say that it's sold. Oh well. Turn around and go home a bit disappointed but also relieved at the thought of not having to MOT, sorn, sell, haggle, changing insurance etc etc in a short space of time to achive this. I had worked out I would save about £13k in the next 10 years of ownership by going diesel and dropping my road tax from £305 a year to £30. Still hankering, still looking and christmas is coming, for me anyhow ;0).

Swapped those door button trims from black to cream, looks better imho. Pass side it's easy to remove, drivers side the door card must come off

Replaced the turbo compressed air outlet hose with a DO88 silicone one. The DO88 is of far sturdier construction, and is nowhere near as soft as the original.

Devised a TRULY GENIUS fix for my right side (off-side, UK) brake light socket which has melted a bit causing it to fail to light due to it now failing to seat squarely in the fixture.

I stretched a rubber band from the turn signal's socket down to that of the brake light. Thank heavens for the wings on the sockets.
That bit of pressure is all that's needed to maintain contact.

I wonder if non-Volvo bulbs did this to the socket.
Service records have 2 entries of "replaced rear lamps".
My left side bulb blew and I used a common (to the USA) 1156 bulb.
THEN the right side got finicky as described above-ODD.

Neither bulb had Volvo stamped on them.

Changed a blown brake light....what a palaver.....what a pain - you very quickly become adept in the use long nose pliers.

Not exactly Volvo related, but I don’t imagine there’s any shortage of car nuts here....

I drove my friend’s 1971 Mk1 Capri 3.0l GT from a hotel to a wedding venue carrying the bride, her chief bridesmaid and her father. (My friend had had elbow surgery and can’t drive a car without power steering...)
What a beautiful car!
