Banana has done aboslutely nothing except try and get a £1200 (costs have already increased) LPG installation working, as fitted by Dai.

If someone had taken that money off you, claimed to bea registered fitter (shown to be a lie) and took no responsibility, I wonder if you would be as calm and measured as he has been?

You're looking at the wrong person!

If this thread is distressing to you Tom, please unfollow it. I've had nothing but problems with this LPG installation. I went heavily out of pocket over Xmas by returning the car to Dai to rectify things, only for the car to get worse. Apologies if I'm "distressed". Dai has stated earlier that he wants to resolve this, but now has u-turned on that (seemingly) by shooting down the LPG installers over here in Ireland.

Explain how I've been a lout here too, I'm genuinely interested to hear your explanation.

So you only want praise on the forum and not to name and shame places that could ruin your stuff

This forum is a Car Forum for ALL members.
At present it is degenerating into something lower than the Jeremy Kyle show, with people taking a delight in washing their dirty linen in public. Once again, I refer you to the forum rules. If you want to get your problems sorted out, use the correct and proper legal procedures, and please do not continue with this merry-go-round of slur and counter-slur here.
Remember this forum is accessible and accessed by the public at large. Just what impression os Volvo Owners do you think that they are garnering from the tone of this, and similar threads?

1. Be courteous to others. We do not tolerate any abusive behaviour. We do not tolerate any obscene comments or images. We do not tolerate derogatory remarks directed toward a particular member or group of members. If you are not sure, either ask a member of the moderation team or don't post it.
2. Posts are to be made in the relevant forum/topic. Users are asked to read the forum descriptions before posting and to keep to the thread topic. Posts that drift off topic may be edited or removed.
3. Members should remember this board is an open forum and is aimed at a general audience, potentially including children. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning. Threads or posts that the moderators find unacceptable will be removed if they so choose. This can include threads related to: street racing, pornography or nudity, political debates, illegal drugs, violence towards others, and any thread complaining about a member, the forum or other forums. Take that up with the respective party. If the forum moderators are informed of a post which may be deemed illegal or defamatory, the moderators reserve the right to review the post. This will not be aimed at dispute resolution or mediation. That is beyond the reasonable scope of a car forum. We will attempt to put parties in touch to resolve their issues and establish whether they are happy for the thread to continue as long as it is polite and reasonable. If the thread degrades, we will take appropriate action. That may include removing the threads or posts involved. Any person who feels that a posted message is objectionable or otherwise breaches the terms of this agreement is encouraged to contact us immediately by using the in-topic reporting tool Report this post button rather than by responding directly in the thread.

I am heartily sick of my mailbox being filled on a daily basis with complaints about, or complaints from, a small but vociferous minority, including some recent arrivals who appear to have come simply with an axe to grind.

I would still refer to my original question to TomW, and ask how my behaviour has been loutish?
I don't appreciate the slur, especially in light of the distress financially and otherwise that this matter has caused me.

For one, I stand by what I've done in standing up to a certain member who has, not for the first time, cost another, innocent member considerable grief and expense and exposing a few truths.

It's dissapointing how thi has been construed by some, and I do regret getting embroiled in abusive moments with those who, for some reason, back-up the actions of this certain member. I hope you never fall victim to similar circumstances and have to repost it on here.

This entire situation has been unpleasant for many who have been involved and hopefully it's seen its course and burnt itself out. There's nothing left to act on or say. albeit I hope bananking gets a satisfactory conclusion and the LPG system he paid good money for, at no more extra expense. Fingers crossed a certain member will stand by his promise to reimburse extra costs and take this mistake on the chin.

Be nice if this thread saw an end to further abuse and didn't spill over onto the forum, and vice versa. There surely is no need, and one thing we surely all have in common is wanting a stop to itand a return to joviality and mutual respect/info sharing.

Can I just add that a full on test drive (and check afterwards) would probably have revealed all the problems with this installation before returning the car to the customer. This would have saved any of this from even appearing an a public forum such as this and quite a lot of embarrassment and financial hardship on both sides. Yes, I understand that in the mechanics and fitters trade, time means money and there isn't a lot of time to fully test and inspect your work. But in this case, where the customer didn't exactly live around the corner, a special effort should have been made.

From the sounds of it, it also sound as if the engine itself was probably not the most ideal candidate for fitting LPG. In fact if the engine was in as bad a condition as has been stated earlier, I'm sure most fitters would have turned the job down until, at the very least, a good service was undertaken. Ignition problems on an already worn engine will be exacerbated while running on LPG (a lesson I learned the hard way on a Vauxhall astra). The "can do" attitude probably got the better of common sense here and the job went ahead anyway.

In all it does sound like a calamity of errors on all sides that should have been nipped in the bud well before it made it to the forums. The engine itself should have been serviced and any initial problems fixed. The mechanic should have recognized this and refused the job, or performed the service. The work should have been fully checked and tested before releasing the car to the customer, with a certificate from an authorised body stating the installation was safe and correctly fitted. The customer should have ensured that he test drove the car before returning home, ensuring that he had in his possession a receipt for the work carried out and the certification for the install.

Unfortunately it sounds as if none of the above happened, and we arrived here. And we are left with one very unhappy customer, left out of pocket and a very good trader and advice giver leaving us because he had his name slandered with a variety of sensationalist posts after a rare lapse and mistake.

Could things have been handled better? Yes. Was there any need for this to have escalated as far as it did? No.

Mistakes happen, errors occur & I hope these two perfectly reasonable people can come to an agreement that suits both parties.

Mike

Out of interest I went back to the beginning of this thread to have a read through the first few posts.
Bananaking came on here with a problem and was asking for advice from the forum community. It probably wasn't the best idea in hindsight and everything thats gone on since shouldn't have happened.
I'm not taking side with anyone as I don't know many people on here personally. I have noticed a few people who seem to go looking for trouble to stir up and they are just as much to blame.

If it were my car and I'd found this done to it I would have just refused to pay until it was sorted out. There are no excuses for the way car has been cut about to make the tank fit, it's appalling.

To Bongodave and Bananaking
I unreservedly apologise for my insulting remarks made on the spur of the moment to you both. I sincerely hope we can draw the whole matter to a close on this forum.
