I've just checked my average fuel consumption over the last 13 months that I've owned the car, it works out at 36.23mpg.

The winter weather reduced my mpg by 0.5 mpg to 41.5 mpg.

On the XC60?

Only way i can get that sort of mpg is by driving at a constant 60mph on the motorway.

I'm an old timer so tend to take things easy these days, I've done my share of rushing around.

I'm not quite sure how Roy achieves his high mpg, I have got there on occasions in fact I even hit 50mpg on a half tank of fuel once when touring Scotland.
Good on him for having such a light foot, must be a bit boring though.

Just wish my wife would agree with you. She always starts screaming if I drive at my usual speed. I don't use the brakes much and don't slow for corners much. Always keep the car properly aligned and low rolling resistance tyres. Same technique as when I used to race to get as much energy into forward motion and as little as possible into heavy braking.

With brake pads that have lasted 45k miles so far it is clear I don't use the brakes much either, but I still maintain that the only I could achieve this dowry of figure is with steady cruising speed, using the gearbox or acceleration on roads consumes a lot of fuel.

As an ex HGV driver I have probably driven about 2 million miles in my lifetime, and like you I'm not heavy on my brakes, I try to take a straight line through corners and read the road ahead of me so try to drive progressive rather than agressive. But I still can't get anywhere near you on mpg. Do you use your computer reading or the top up method?
It's sort of strange that you seem to be the only driver who can manage this sort of mpg. I also know the road's around where you live as we have relatives in Peasmarsh and they are not good for max mpg.

My pads on my XC90 lasted 74k if that means anything.
