WHAT TO DO?
Seems the garage is a bit behind the times and not reading their bulletins ...

Volvo have been trying for years to fix this one ,
Firstly they advised a ring of loctite on the splines which worked but would make removal difficult next time .
Then some brainy person at Volvo decided to put a plastic washer between the driveshaft face and wheel bearing to damp the movement , it was hopless , the plastic ring split causing a much louder clonk .
The final cure is the XC 90 drive shaft bolts with the rubber insert torqued to 50 nm ..

Can you just order the parts ( the part number is on here somewhere ) off Rufe and get someone else to fit them?

If it's under warranty take it to the dealer and tell them your drive shats are clonking ... they should know what do do by now :-)

Or as you're local to me I'm happy to pop 'em in for you and torque them up.

I live near Melton Mowbray and work at Leicester General Hosp

10 min job if you've got the new bolts...

Just wanted to add that I've done the XC90 bolt 'fix/upgrade' today and it's solved the noise on mine.

Just don't ask how much the new bolts cost

Just an update on things... During the break period i contacted Volvo about this problem as it was raised before my warranty had expired. Well i have just recieved a reply to say that they will fix the problem at no cost to me but will not do the XC90 fix, instead they will remove the driveshaft and install a washer to dampen the movement. What shall i do?
