Had "brake failure stop safely" appear on the way to work this morning. Went from doing 80mph in the outside lane of the M5 to the ridiculous 'limp mode' instantly and had to swing across two lanes of traffic with no power to the hard-shoulder. The car effectively takes control away from you and forces you to stop whatever the situation which is dangerous IMO.

Anyway, the car wouldn't start for 5 minutes on the hard-shoulder with the red triangle displayed. A few cycles of turning off ignition and attempting to start the car finally cleared codes and started with no faults. Drove on from the hard-shoulder for another 5 minutes and got to work with another 'limp mode' event on the way.

The car is now parked at work and am going to get a taxi back tonight with laptop and diagnostics gear to read the codes. Car is a Volvo v50 56 model which is sounds like it is covered by the technical bulletin. Based on the comments here I am anticipating the 0130 BCM code and a big repair bill with no help from Volvo.

Has anybody had good experiences with third party repairers like ecutesting.com?

Any help appreciated.

OK so I'm hooked up to VIDA and am getting and endless stream of all sorts of fault codes

DIM-0001 mileage manipulated
EPS-0080 steering angle sensor faulty signal
EPS-E000 can communication faulty
...
the list is endless

The battery voltage without ignition is 12.48v
When running the voltage hovers around 14.7v

Any ideas?

OK there is a strange buzzing sound coming from somewhere by the accessory belt so assume it is the alternator.

Voltage dropped below 12v and will not start.

I guess replacing this would be the next step

Well I towed it home tonight and everything has been fine.

Removed the CEM, scraped the oxidation off all connectors, cleared the codes in VIDA and now everything seems fine.

Scubasteve,

What you have been experiencing is classic symptoms of the CEM.

Once you start getting multiple error messages over multiple systems then this points to a problem of sorts with the CEM. It can often happen when a garage or owner does servicing and doesn't plug the connectors back in properly and lock into place and of course if you have dirty and oxidised connections then this will cause similar issues.

I would however try and trace the reason why you have oxidised connectors in the first place. You have had some sort of water ingress.

C30, 2007 2.0 Diesel, 98k. Anti-skid Service Required came up 4 weeks ago. My local independent garage who services my car said the DTC's indicated the ABS Pump Module needed replacing for £650. To save myself some money, can anyone give me advice on where it is in the engine bay and how best to remove it? I plan to send it to ECU Testing.com for a refurb. Thank you.

So I had my car in for a service.. Went to collect it today and this anti skid message was on the car when I started it.

They took it back into the workshop cleared the codes.. All fine.. Drop it out the workshop on the forecourt and back it came so they'll be looking at it tomorrow.. Surely if it's in their care when this happens volvo would have to cover it? Baring in mind that it was fine when it went in?
