Please don't banger it if you're a racer, there's enough 240s about to keep you happy. It really deserves to be saved, not smashed.

I could be interested in some parts to aid my conversion of a late 240 to an earlier spec but the panels I'd use such as the bonnet and wings all look like they need repair.

If you find yourself in the position where you may ring the scrap man let me know.
A real shame if it gets scrapped but in these hard times it's to much money to start with when so much more has to be spent.
And that is not having a go at you Gordon just expressing an economic fact.

I would love to own it and have all the work done but just how much is a restored 262 worth these days?

I quoted Lanky Tim as I was always led to beleave that the screen is the same as a standard model. It's just leant back more as the pillars are bent or cut and rewelded to fit the lowered roof. This is one of the reasons they rust so badly at the bottom of the screen corners.
Please feel free to correct me as I'm always glad to learn more.

I am hoping someone with deep pockets saves this as there are so very few left.

Come on someone do the right thing pretty please.Imagine the "kudos" of owning such a rare car.It would nearly always win best in it's class as they rarely turn up at the shows. All you need is a donar saloon for most of the panels like roof and window surround etc.

Kind regards Brian.

I'm 99% sure the screen in unique to the model but I'm willing to be proven wrong! Even if it is different theres a chance a specialist would be capable of cutting down a regular saloon screen to fit.

Youre 100% right! All windows and screens are UNIQUE and NO longer AVAILABLE.
The glass can NOT be cut.

Some info:

Every carglass (like ours from Pilkington) are made of tempered safety glass (TSG). TSG is highly resistant to shock, impact and bending loads as well as against thermal stress. When preloading process, the glass sheet is heated until softened (about 600 ° C) and then quenched with cold air by convection. By this treatment a stress state in equilibrium is built into the disk. The surfaces are under compressive stress, the inner disc under tension. A repeal of the tension between the edge or surface by damaging the glass disintegrates into small fragments of more or less loosely connected crumbs. These crumbs cause no serious injuries.

Such a glass can be cut?
No - no way! Subsequent processing of the screen is not possible because of surface tension and would destroy the glass as described above.

@Gordon,
If you have decided NOT to give away the whole car, and decided to sell some parts separately, please let me know!

I do really need some compatible parts for my 264.

For example:
- The backlights
- the radio!!!
- perhaps the steering wheel
- chromed outer door handles

I have a friend near London, so shipping or pickup might not be the problem.
With best regards
Clemens
