New keys?!
Hello all, I have just bought a beautiful xc70, but the keys are both broken where the key ring attaches... Are replacements very expensive and do I have to get them from Volvo ? Or does anyone have an idea that would solve the problem without buying new?

Replacements are about £74; coding them to the car costs about £40. I don't know if key outer cases are available. Hope this helps.

Thank you, that's pricey!
Wow! That's a lot! I think I'll try to find a way of drilling / creating a hole for a key ring, the actual keys work fine....

Further thoughts on the above - my keys are for a 'keyless entry/ignition' system. I don't know if the non-keyless (excuse the double negative!) version is the same cost. Secondly, on my keys, the loop for the key ring (actually more like a slot for the key ring) is in the metal key blade, which I think is available separate from the rest of the key.

Thanks again Richard
Hmm, that's interesting... I obviously have a lot to learn about volvo keys! I'll also have another lookmat the key and see if I'm missing a place where the key ring could go. I don't think I am though, it's pretty obvious someone has broken the plastic and tried to repair it with resin or some sort where I think the keyring slot / loop ought to go.

I'll send you a picture of mine if you like so that you can see what I'm talking about!
P.S. You're welcome! (picture of my key, that is!)

Thanks again
Hi Richard
I have only just logged back onto the forum so didn't see your last post. Thanks, a picture of the keys would be useful. I have actually managed to bodge a repair which has allowed me to attach a keyring now so there's no emergency but I will still look our for something more robust. |
