"CD Error" on HU-803
Hello
I have a 2002 Volvo XC70 with a HU-803 4-CD changer. Last week I wanted to eject a CD from it, and nothing happened - except that the display now shows "CD Error". I've just returned from the local main dealer who tell me it the unit needs replacing, at a price which is not much less than that of the entire car (given its age). :-( Is this something that can be repaired at a reasonable cost? Thanks! Koen |

Hi there,
might be a bit simplistic but try pushing another cd in at a slight angle as your trying to eject and it tends to free it off and eject the offending CD. Cheaper CD-R's (tesco etc) are prone to getting stuck. Hope that helps matt |

+1 on above, I have sometimes the same problem, if you look where there cd goes in in the middle there is little plastic clip or something like that, if you get phone card or old bank card just press eject button and just stick you bank/phone card there should relese the cd with out any problem

Had same on my S60, sorted it by keeping the on/off button pressed and turning the ignition to position 2 about three times. Try it and see.

Many, many thanks - that did the trick. In this case it was not a cheap CD but a proper one (Adele's 21, in case anyone wants to know :-)). I have a feeling I was a bit quick to press the eject button after switching on the ignition, and that it was this that caused the unit to refuse to play ball, but that may be just my imagination. Great trick, and shame on the Volvo dealer not to even try this and immediately telling me I need a new unit for £500. Shouldn't they be aware of these tricks? Thanks again! K |
