starting problems 740 GLE (gas)
I have a 1988 740 GLE (gas) with an infrequent starting problem that is becoming more frequent. The car will go for weeks starting fine but will then develop a problem of not starting when warm (ie. after a number of short trips). It starts fine when cold but if I travel somewhere and try to start the engine when it is warm, it won't start. If I wait 5-10 minutes, it will start fine. Very occasionally, the car will stall when driving (always at low speeds). Again, it won't start for 5-10 minutes. Could this be related?
Any ideas? |

RE: starting problems 740 GLE (gas)
If the "gas" stood for gasoline then I would suspect the fuel relay is beginning to pack up and needs replacing or carefull resoldering of of it's internal connections. The other causes could be the distributor sensor (Hall effect) or the ignition power amplifier.
All the best, Peter. |

I would look at changing the fuel sensor.
I had the same problem a year ago. |
