Default XC70 When is cambelt due and what else needs replacing?

Hi All

I have a 2002 XC70 D5 at 85K miles. I want to confirm that the cambelt is due at 96K. - the car is currently at 85K.

Finally is there a cambelt 'kit' with pullys etc i should be buying? Any idea of cost for the parts?

Thanks.

Matt.

Hi Matt

yes 96k or 10 years but that really is a very long period in my opinion.

This seems to be good value bearing in mind it is Genuine Volvo. I have NOTHING to do with this company.

Thanks for the reply. I must say i agree with your comments and have added a timing belt kit to an order for a load of brake parts and a reversing sensor from FRF.

Interestingly they also did an excellent price for the genuine Volvo item.

Its ironic that i have now purchased Volvo parts from FRF to be shipped to me from Swansea, when i could drive to Caffyns Eastbourne to collect the part in the ebay link above in about 10mins from where i live!

Pitty all their parts aren't so competitive..

Matt.

When was the aux belt done ? Has it been done ? That is the one to keep an eye on. When that one goes it can take the cambelt with it ££££

If it snaps it has a very common habit of cracking ther plastic cambelt cover and derailing the cambelt. Result ££££££££££££££

Big mistake if you don't replace it when doing the cambelt!

The aux belt tensioner (2005/06 MY) is not the most durable of components.
It bends and the aux belt can jump in towards the engine. The belt itself may not actually break but lose a band or two. That's what happened to mine at <60k miles. Luckily I heard it happen, it was sitting at some traffic lights, just pulled off the inner band which had come off.
Changed the cambelt as precautionary measure when the new aux belt + tensioner was fitted.
I will be replacing the aux belt at 48k intervals from now with the cambelt every second aux belt.
