Volvo 740 driving like a kangaroo help.
volvo 740 gle 1987 230e engine, changed air filter, fuel filter, rotor arm, plugs, plug leads, coil and when you drive it and put your foot down its very jumpy like its on kangaroo juice, yet when its stationary and reved up its smooth.only thing we had done at first was change the fuel filter then the problem started, but its revving a lot better since all plugs, coils etc were changed.only the jumpy driving.any idea's my mechanic says only thing left to try is a distributor but theyre pretty expensive.he has also checked timing belt, dwell angle and dizzy cap.any suggestions my wallets getting thin.

I had this problem with my 1987 740,turned out to be the fuel pump,if i remember there are two.I am pretty sure this is where your problems lie, good luck.

Perhaps double check the new fuel filter has been fitted the correct way round? If I remember correctly, on 740's they CAN be fitted either way, but only work the correct way - there is an arrow on it that says "Front". I know this is the case on 940's, and am sure it is the same on 740's.
Don't want to criticise your mechanical skills, but it is an easy mistake to make when you are lying underneath trying to fit the damn thing! Good luck Graeme |

What about a loose wire, perhaps on the ignition side. That, coupled with rocking from engine mounts 'could' cause what you say. It's never happened to me but I've read it on a few posts over the years (not Volvo TBH)
