Hi all, new boy here.

I have searched the forum and found multiple answers to the problem but I am trying to nail it down.

Any help really appreciated.

I have a problem with my car going into limp mode with the 'urgent engine service' warning when I try to get a quick getaway or going up a steep hill. It always (so far anyway) clears as soon as I turn off and restart. The car has also begun (this week) to just die on me. The engine stops instantly (no spluttering or such like) with all the normal ignition lights coming on (it seems to happen only when the engine is cold). When this happens there is no dash warning. The car (again so far) starts at the first turn of the key after this cut out.

I have it booked in at Kastners Exeter for a full service soon and hopefully they will identify the problem but is there anything i can check beforehand? I understand that it could be fuel filter or an injector problem. Is there any one thing that is likely to cause both things to happen?

Thanks for this forum, it's a great help.

I also have the 'disc cannot be read' on the RTI but I only have a copied disc to try. The on screen diagnostics show the dvd player as 'NG'. I have physically cleaned the lens (thanks to the help guide on here) but to no avail. I have asked Volvo to see if the bios needs re-installing.

Hi again,

Just noticed that the bottom engine mount rubber looks perished (why is this connected by pipes?) and there is a small pool of black oil caught in the recess around the middle injector. Could these be causing my issues?

Thanks

The engine mounts are Vacuum operated and have been known to give similar engine problems due to vacuum leaks when faulty. A quick way to check is to join the pipes together and bypass the mount to see if the engine problem disappears. If so new mount time.

UPDATE
Have now put 1 tin of BG244 in the tank and no noticeable change (although I haven't done may miles, it may improve), removed MAF sensor and cleaned with BG 4073B (MAF cleaner), fair amount of crud but no change, clamped off front engine mount - no change, clamped off both pipes from mount control valve - no change.
Can someone advise if the hard plastic pipe from the lower port of the engine mount control (the small electrically connected unit fixed on the front of the air box) should be able to sustain a vacuum? I ask because if I suck on the pipe from the other port (at 90 deg to the body, which connects to the front bottom engine mount and tee's off to the back somewhere), I can create a vacuum, whereas if I suck on the hard plastic pipe (which goes to a unit/sensor bolted to the front of the block and tee's off to a bosch unit fixed at the rear upper right hand side of the engine) I can draw in air.
Thanks for your guidance.

why on earth are you putting those carp chemicals in your car? they do nothing as you have discovered. Random cutting out will most probably be either the in tank fuel pump or the fuel filter, they are diagnosed by replacement & both are very common issues. Limping under load is probably the turbo inlet hose gone mushy. Leaks on the vac circuit cause overboost & give different symptoms to what you are describing.
