Default Cornwall run

Just done the annual Leeds / Cornwall run and didn`t get too good mpg results, 1000 miles mostly motor way and not more than 75mph and only returned 43 mpg, the old vectra 2.2 dti would have done 50+. Anyone else get around this or is there something wrong here, my mechanic thinks it could be running rich so oxygen sensor somewhere not operating correctly.
As adjusted handbrake before I let and now the button rattles constantly, does anyone have a tip to stop this as is becoming annoying.

Cheers Phil.

Ahhh the handbreak button rattle, thats been driving me mad for the last month or so. Have taken to sticking blue tack on it to weigh it down until I can get it sorted.

I drove from Glasgow to Oxford at 75 most of the way and got 44mpg (calculated), trip computer was close at 46, 2.0D Powershift. Weather was warm so a/c on all the time but worth it 2 or 3mpg difference it makes.

On the homeward trip sat at 80 most of the way and economy dropped to around 40. Not brilliant.

Having said that on my normal commute sitting at 65mph on a 30 mile motorway run on cruise with a/c on get's me up around 47ish which is reasonably good.

Your figures seem quite realistic so I doubt there's anything wrong. It's just not a great car for fuel economy at higher speeds.

I find that if I stick to about 60-65 on a hot day I can get ~65MPG from my S40 Euro 3 2.0D. It drops to about 45 doing 80 at night.
