Default Warm starting problem 2.5tdi 1999

Hi,
Have a phase 1 V70 tdi with about 75000 on clock. New cam belt and auxillary pumps fitted by Kings of Witcham in Jan. Suddenly in last few weeks developed starting problem when warm. Perfectly ok starting when cold and when very hot but when warm, may take many many tries to successfully start. Kings recalibrated pump last week as told belts can stretch a little but problem still persists. Co-incidently (or not) fuel consumption was for ages (20000 miles that is )41.8 mpg but now in last 3 -4 weeks reads 44.5 mpg. grateful for using less fuel but cant help thinking maybe connected.
Apparently when hooked up to diagnostics, no fault code showing.

Any ideas?
