I have read lots of times that you can get problems with using the wrong ATF including Dexron. Also I have read of hard shifting when the ATF level is wrong-check it when hot (http://www.freewebs.com/howardsvolvos/driveline.htm)
I also read that Kings in Southampton (I think now a part of Volvo chain, Snows) are very clued up & helpful on auto gearbox problems (http://www.dealer.volvocars.co.uk/snows/southampton/ email kingssouthampton@snowsgroup.co.uk) I haven't tried them myself.
I was toying with trying the B4 servo kit myself, but not really sure what symptoms this should fix & my box is now working well almost all of the time. The software on my car was all up to date 9 months & 15000 miles ago when I last had it serviced at Caffyns Eastbourne (who are also very helpful). I don't want to spend a lot on it now, since it is now not worth all that much & I am just being made redundant!
My main problem now is the emmisions light on. Any ideas on that?

If you search for the user Amsoil and look for his posts and threads you will probably get some useful info.

I know that using Amsoil ATF is popular on the XC90 forum.

The only way forward with the light is to read the fault codes, something like this would do:

Thanks Chris looks interesting.
I booked it with an independant today to let them have a go at it. If they can't sort it, I may get one & have a go myself
