Hi
Having a recurring problem with my S40 Volvo. It is an S reg. Starts first time from cold every time but if I do a couple of short journeys and have to start the car more than twice within about an hour it wont start. I have to keep turning the key over and over until eventually the engine turns over and starts. I have had the starter changed recently but now I don't think that was the problem. Has anyone experienced a similar fault and what was it??
Thanks

Check to see whether the problem is due to the spark plugs or the battery. They may need to be replaced.

.....i used to get this with my T4 drove about 3/4 mile into town came back to start after 5 mins and would not start smell of petrol and all that....i repaced the temperature sender by the thermostat and it solved the problem........the engine was still on enrichment when turned off and was too rich for a new start with the engine partially warm.....

We had this with my wife's car - it will most probably be the engine temperature sensor if it has one. This regulates the amount of fuel needed depending on the temperature of the engine. If it starts well from cold then I would assume it wouldn't be the plugs as this would be when it would struggle the most. Unless the choke is stuck on of course?

Reading 960kg's post I think it's the same thing he is on about.
