Angry Parking Sensors Continually BEEEEP

Hi All,

My parking sensor unit has started to continually beep when engaging reverse. It goes off after about 10 seconds but the sensors fail to operate.

There's no obvious sign of damage or dirt to any of the senors other than the paint is flaking off of them. I've WD40'd them in case water had got in. I've also removed the control unit (part no 9187071) and checked the connections and looked for any obvious dry joints. Nothing found.

Any ideas what I can try next? I want to avoid the main dealer at the moment - especially as I see how they have cut into the car's wiring and just used electrical tape and twisted wires to splice in (no use of crimped connectors at all).

Cheers
Pete

I cured a V70 by cleaning each sensor with a soft toothbrush, warm/hot water and pure soap. Blow dry with compressed air. I think it was a small spider or insect trapped.
No reoccurence since then. Alternativley you can disconnect each sensor in turn.
Quite agree with the standards of the accessories fitted by 'some' Volvo dealers. Gash as gash can be. Factory fitted every time if you have that choice. [excl towbars -no choice now]

Default parking sensors

The only fault tracing in my manual for the parking sensors on my V70, says that a fault has a occured in the reverse system when the buzzer sounds for 5 seconds when the gear selector is moved into the reverse position. If all the sensors have been cleaned and none of them work it would seem that the fault is in the control unit. As a matter of interest it might be worth remaking the connections with proper crimps etc.

Cheers
