Smile Advice needed on which V70 to get...

Hi All,

Looking for some help,

Im looking to buy a V70, with a max budget of £3k the car will be mainly used by my wife who covers approx 9k miles pa. What type of engine and spec do you recommend? Don't want anything underpowered as do like a little fun once in a while!

Lastly is anyone looking to say goodbye to their V70 in the near future?

Let me know.

The choice is yours really. You should be able to stretch to a P2 model with £3k. A petrol model will be cheaper to buy, but they're a bit thirsty. A diesel model is the opposite. Would it be your 1st volvo?

To be honest, if you're only gonna do around 9k miles per annum, i would go for a 2.4 petrol, probably get hold of one for a grand less than a diesel.

Hello, When buying a car you have to weigh what you want vs. what you need. Everything HAS to fall within your budget. I think you'd be nuts to even think about the more powerful engines (turbos) at this time. You'll have your hands full finding a car in decent shape for 3,000. A 1998 petrol with either auto or manual transmission could come in at that price in well maintained condition. Come 1999-2000 you still have the established, durable 4-speed automatic (if you go that route). Many will warn about the ETM's weak design but that can be fixed with Xemodex's rebuild. Go to their website and see how much they charge. Start shopping. Kira

Mileage and budget point to an early P2 petrol. However the age of the car means major jobs are on the horizon and these are expensive cars to maintain. You may find a gem, I hope so. Good Luck.

Thanks for all the help, most likely going to be a petrol, mpg isn't too much of a concern as the Picasso only does 30mpg so anything slightly lower isn't too bad.

We have seen a few either the 2.4T or T5 with less than 100k miles what are the big jobs which are likely at this sort of mileage? Might also consider the 2.4 170 bhp.

The last car was a Saab 93 Aero 5(53 reg) hence the desire for something relatively quick!
