Steering Wheel Squeak Keeps Coming Back
Hi
I just got a S70 2.5 1997 se model im fixing many of the little annoying problems at the moment but one that really is bugging me is the squeaking steering wheel when u turin it. I followed the guide on this site: www.volvospeed.com to grease up the steering wheel bearing ! I used multipurpose grease and the car drove fine for a few hours then it came back !! Why did the noise come back so quickly ?? also what exactly does the bearing do and is it harmful to the car to just drive with it taken out ?? THanks |

If you steer the car to the left, does the noise come from the right side? Similarly, if you steer the car to the right, does the noise come from the left side? If so, you need to ask a mechanic to inspect the front suspension.
My guess is that you have a damaged CV joint. |

Either the bearing is excessively worn (and needs replacing) or you havent been able to get enough grease into the bearing.
I'm not familiar with the bearing in question but I'd think it is there for a reason and should not be removed. Simon
