Default radio code

hi - got a 2002 V70 - not had this one too long - it didnt come with a radio code.

I called one dealer - £20 - needed car and V5 - another dealer said same and a tenner - i couldnt get through to my local usual dealer.

when i got through to usual dealer (i wanted to enquire about some parts) i asked about the code - the lady serving me in parts just looked it up and said there's no code - and went on to say from around 2001 ish radios werent coded

I dont disbelieve the person i was talking to but dont want to disconnect battery to find out!! And i told the other dealers car was 2002 and they wanted cash!!

Thanks

Kevin

No code is needed for these radios as they are embedded with the car VIN and will only work properly on the car they were built with .... the only problem you get with disconnecting the battery is the clock needs resetting !

I don't think the radio is coded to the car as such, the problem with changing them happens because they made various changes to the model of radio and you need the exact same to work properly. Other models can be fitted if software is available for the combination of car and radio.

Volvo being Volvo have a procedure for re-connecting the battery, the ignition should be on, I think in position II but need to check that to be sure.

The Radios are matched to each individual car just like all the electronic modules , the serial numbers are logged in the main computer on the car ( The CEM ) and the data from the CEM is stored in sweden on the main computer .
The problem comes when you fit a new module or do a software upgrade or re load , the numbers on the car dont match the numbers on the sweden computer , you geta mismatch and the whole cars electrical system can shut down .. a very expensive problem to fix ....
When ever you fit a new module and do software the serial numbers are all sent back to the main volvo computer in sweden .. so it is known exactly what was done , when it was done , and by who it was done ...
