Very much the same here (D5 AWD Geartronic). Most of my mileage is local, with occasional dual carriageway stuff: I'm seeing 26-28 mpg . When I have had the opportunity to do a motorway stint, it's mid to late thirties. Not brilliant - but I love the car.

I've just had my 3000 mile QAI and have also just recorded my best mpg. The figure indicated in car was 44.0 mpg for a tank of diesel, but the more accurate Fuelly calculations give a whole tank average of 41.0mpg - so it does look as though the car computer figures are 7-8% optimistic.
The fuel consumption does appear to be improving as the car 'runs-in', helped by a nice long run down to Southampton and back this week, to drop relatives off on the new Cunard Queen Elizabeth. The car easily swallowed an enormous amount of luggage and drove as normal. My wife's Fiat 500 noticeably improved in both economy and performance after it had clocked up 7-8K miles, so hopefully the Volvo will follow suit. The Fiat (1.2 petrol) is mostly used around town and shortish runs, but interestingly the Volvo is showing better economy than the Fiat, albeit I am doing longer runs in less traffic! |

agreed, the mpg at the moment on mine is 29 at best, only had it a week so i hope the view that it improves with age is correct!
going for its first long run tommorow to Alton towers, see if gets up past 30mpg,the wife's already moaning about the potential fuel bills,I have the 20" alloys on mine,is it possible these can reduce the mpg?

There are a few threads here about fuel consumption and it seems that about 30mpg city and a bit better for country driving is about par for the D5 with AWD.
