Default What Brakes are you Running?

Hi All,

I have been looking through all the search links and there seems to be no answer so i am looking for poeples views.

I am running standard OEM discs and Pads at the moment and i am looking to up grade the Pads. The car is the daily drive and is going to be used on 1/2 track days a year.

My question is with standard OEM discs what the best Pads to go for.

Looking for people's experiences with their Pads and Discs

Cheers
Andy

Try asking this on T5D5.

I am going for Ferodo DS2500, despite being an expensive pad, its a quality pad through and through. Tried these on an M3 and they were simply mind blowing. No brake fade and perfect fit.

Carbotech also do very good pads XP8 is the compound you will be looking at for your requirements but I have heard that they can be noisy (squeal a bit).

I would also say that its advisable to carry out a brake fluid change use some good quality fluid, again T5D5 is the place to ask about this.

Smile Brakes lol

I ve replaced my brakes twice using standard size and good quality disc's and pads.
They dont last long, Disc's are warped and pads have no feel now.

Now looking for the bigger 302 upgrade, but i cant help thinking whats the point in a Bigger disc and the same size pad???

Surley you need a greater size pad to brake the car better on a bigger size disc??

If you are going to do any track day driving get the 302 discs, you will need 16 inch rims that will have the room Metis and prefro are ok.

Carbotech and DS pads are good upgrades but not worth it if you are only doing the odd trackday. I have done over 100 miles at Castle Combe with OEM pads on 302 discs and they were fine.

Dont use green stuff they are worse than rubbish

Cheers, Steve,

I am currnetly running 17inch rims, they are the R replicas. Mines a N/A but i love the look and when i get my R i'll already have the rim si want.

Combe is my local track so i'm glad that you've had not trouble.

I presume the 302 are a straight fit and all i'll need is the caliper bracket and longer brake hoses to get these to fit?

My only issue is that if the disc are bigger but the pad is the same size how does this stop the car quicker?

Also will I need the front/back bias adjusted?

Cheers

Greater diameter disc = caliper further from hub centre = more braking torque.

Larger disc = better heat dissipation.
