Default Steel Seal

I have recenlty put a question onto the forum about my 940 diesel which has a head gasket gone.
Someone has said I should look at a product called Steel Seal which apparently will fix the problem.
Anyone tried it?

Cool

Presumably this is the stuff?

Interesting product.

Don't know, but but my take on it would be that it would be a good product to keep in the car on a long trip abroad say, where the costs of rectifying a blown head gasket might be heavy, or spares not available. Or perhaps to get you through a few months where cash flow might be a problem....not unknown these days!!

But as a permanent fix? Never heard of it before, but it has some bold claims.

So...I think it would be good as a temporary repair, but I personally reckon that the only sure fire way of doing a proper Headgasket repair properly is by stripping, skimming both head and block, and a new gasket. But maybe I'm old fashioned as far as engine repairs go?

Tried this stuff on a Rover 211 that the head gasket went on. The gasket didn't prevent the car from starting so it wasn't a major blown gasket.

Since I was short of money & garages hate Rover engines I decided to give it a shot..... didn't work for me so its a thumbs down I'm. afraid

You never know though.

I think this thread explains my experience with steel seal and another member of the forums who I recommended it to.

Default Better than Steel Seal

K Seal
£10/bottle.
Just pour it into the radiator, no draining or removing bits or mixing with special anti feeze
Go.

My 940 LPT was using litres of water, and got to the stage of a hydraulic lock on occasion.
K seal added
10,000 miles now with no probs....

K Seal is not in my experience better than STEEL SEAL .I put two containers in and it worked for a bit but then went bad again.STEEL SEAL is a PERMANENT solution and i suggest you try it when all else fails.

I've always been leery of putting a product designed to clog and block small holes into the cooling system - your radiator and heater core are made up of small holes after all. I've had to replace enough before that were clogged up after customers poured in bars leaks/k-seal/radweld and their ilk, often without the least effect on the problem they were trying to fix.
