Default Impulse (a.k.a. RPM or Crank or Flywheel) sensor

Does anybody know if the impulse sensor (flywheel-crank-rpm sensor ...) from "Audi A6, 2.5TDI, 103kW, 2461cc, 5 cyl, engine code AEL" fits "Volvo 850 2.5TDI, 103kW, 2461cc, 5 cyl, engine code D5252T" ???

My 850TDI engine turned off while driving slowly in a traffic jam. Few minutes before, I was driving 120-170 km/h on the motorway for about 15 kms with the air conditioning on. It was a very hot day (more than 36C), and the outside temp sensor showed 41C while being in a traffic jam with the AC fan on at high speed. Engine briefly stuttered twice and just shut off. I managed to turn by the side of the road, and after a little pause it started on the first go. Check engine light lit up, and the code was "EFI-131 Engine Speed (RPM) signal".

The same error code happened only once before after washing a part of the engine with water. It couldn't start for 3-4 times and when it started check engine light lit up.

So, it happened on a very hot day, after a short but aggressive driving with extra heat supplied by air conditioning.

Should I check the wiring first or go for the sensor immediately?

Are there any non-original sensors which are not expensive? Original Volvo sensor costs 150 pounds at my dealers. As I see non-original sensors which fit Audi with the same engine cost less than 40 pounds and the BOSCH costs 70 pounds. So it looks stupid to pay 150 pounds for the same thing

Thanks very much for any help in advance!
