Default Trip Computer not displaying

I have a 2008 S40 and the trip computer (aka IDIS, Information Display Module) in the upper / center of the instrument console is not displaying the trip information.

The display shows the temperature. When I press the information button on the lever, it displays No Messages. When I rotate the collar knob, the display toggles between DSTV on and temperature, and no display.

There is no trip, mileage or gas information displayed.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Some of the information went off on the clocks on my V70 recently. Although mine is an older car, i was told it was some little bulbs that had gone. Garage put some new bulbs in, and it was all good

Thanks for the Reply.

The display appears to light up correctly because other information does illuminate the face plate.

Important question here is, did you ever have a trip computer? I have a 2008 Volvo S40 with all the Trip computer hardware (I think they mostly leave the factory with this). However, to activate the trip computer requires a software download from volvo. I was quoted £280 for a job which requires a 15minute connection to a computer.
