Default Alternator Outputs

I'm looking at putting a split charge system into my '93 Volvo 940 with the B200F engine but I'm wondering about alternator outputs and what various options are available. Are the units off the fully loaded turbo versions higher output than the 2.0N/A fitted to more basic specifications. Looking around I've seen 65A and 80A versions listed in what I'd consider the A127 body style but I believe there's a later type that may push out 100A but not sure if this fits - guessing it should since they're all read block engines - anybody tried this upgrade?

Thanking all in advance, cheers!

Yep, I'm running an 100A version to power the additional spark and stereo kit i have fitted. It just bolts straight in and takes about 10 mins to fit (most of that spent loosening and tightening the tensioner!)

No. he means changing the currently fitted 65A unit and fit a 100A unit from a later model 940..

Not on a split charge system, he's not but I believe he is looking at options to avoid having to go for the split charge option.

It was something I looked at with the option to fit a 2nd alternator to charge a battery pack in the boot for the stereo system. Not something I need at the moment but if you go for a few subs, it can become an option.

Everybody is sort of right, am retaining a single alternator but because I'm looking to fit a number of power hungry options I'm looking to run a 2nd battery to power those and the extra capacity and the larger alternator is something I'm looking to add to make sure there's enough power to keep both charged! If the later 100A unit fits straight in then I'll get one sorted and start again on this project.

Wouldn't need to run a 2nd alternator under most circumstances but have been involved in a 12/24v 300Tdi Land Rover that featured a 12v main electrics and A127 based 24v isolated generator which mounted where the AC compressor goes on the Tdi!

Cheers for the help!
