Default FREE Volvo 164e Auto 1972

Hi.

I have a Volvo 164e from 1972 in my garage which I need to get rid of and you can have for free if you want it.

The car came to the UK with me in 1999 when I moved here from Iceland.

It is left hand drive.

The engine broke down in 1991 when the shaft of the oil pump broke – causing the distribution to stop turning. Apart from that, the car was in fine running order until then. I stripped the car down in 1991 with the view to restore it but that never happened. It has been in a garage since then. All the stripped parts come with the car (I didn’t touch the engine).

If you want this car – or know anybody who might want it, then would you be kind enough to contact me.

It would be a shame for this car to end up being crushed.

I need to get rid of it very quickly so please let me know whether you can help.

The car is in Redditch, Worcestershire and if somebody wants to pick it up then they can have it for free. It will have to be loaded onto a vehicle as it is not in a state to be towed. If you want to have a look at it then you are of course welcome to do so.

I can be contacted via email or 07887 54 77 77

cheers

Hi Magnus,

If James' plan doesn't work out, I'd definitely be interested.

I'll sent you a PM.

Best wishes,

Sam

Sam...are you interested in the whole car for restoration / tinkering, or just certain parts? A plan is afoot for a couple of us to club together to pull off various bits we want, so if you wanted to join us...?

My interest is rather half-hearted, as I already have two 360s in for breaking...but if we can make it work as a team effort, that would work out better.

cheers

James

Default Volvo 164E

Hi Fogs

I sent Magnus a PM when his ad appeared on here, saying I regretted not being able to shift it nearly 200 miles. However, if all are willing, I'd join in the pickings plan (if adopted) for all the injection stuff, for my 164E.

However, its up to Magnus as to how we can play this, of course. My snag is purely distance, apart from the fact I don't have a trailer any more.

Certainly hope it's not gone to scrap, or broken for bits by James and co - they're way too rare to break now unless beyond redemption!

Cheers,

T

T240 - I agree with you, but here in the UK old cars suffer from being in or out of fashion. A friend sold a badly repaired rubber-bumper MGB a little while ago for just over £2000 - and it hadn't run for over a year, having sat disused in his front garden. You don't get many big old Volvo's go for that, even if immaculate.

Mainland Europe, however, still love them apparently - some convert them to LPG so together with reduced taxation they offer economic motoring.

If you look at ebay occasionally you will have seen the maroon one on there recently didn't reach its reasonable reserve; I won a prize with that a few years ago at a show, and its present owner has done lots more to it to keep it in good nick. If I needed another one I'd buy it back (BUT I DON'T!). My present 164E keeps me busy enough!

Magnus' Icelandic 164 is snugly tucked away in my 'pending restoration' corner.

It's an excellent car with a lovely history - definitely too good for cannibal activity. Although it's not likely to be back on the road in the immediate future, its day will definitely come.

Sam,

That's good to know. I understand that you're not about to start the restoration work now, but would you be able to post up a few photos to show what the car's like?

Many thanks

John
