Question Speedo problem.

The speedometer in my 940 only goes up to 140mph. The needle has been off of the end a couple of times. Is my clutch slipping? It's a 940 lpt auto estate. Also the fuel consumption is very poor and there is a very worn piece of carpet underneath the throttle pedal. It also appears that there may be smoke coming from the offside tyre when accellerating from traffic lights. Any ideas? Its got me stumped.

Hi, have you tried writing some extra numbers (e.g. 150mph, 160mph) on the speedo with a crayon? That should increase your top speed a little. You might need to do the same with the gear stick too, so you can get higher gears. HTH.

Youll also need the Police siren and lights, too, to clear the road!!!!!

Is it possible that my tracking is out as well? When going around bends and roundabouts it seems to steer from the rear. It's more pronounced in the wet. I think my car may be a shed.

had a good laugh at some of the jokes here, but in answer to your questions, no, it is not possible that your clutch is slipping, as being an auto, you dont have one. auto boxes contain a torque converter instead. also, I dont think that that could have the effect that you have seen, as i beleive that the speed is measured at the diff, meaning that clutch/gearbox issues would not have an effect.

on the other front, you need to get the tracking checked at a garage/ tyre shop, but could it just be oversteer bue to being rwd? certainly would explain why it would be worse in the wet weather!

hope i have helped you!

Erm, smoke from the tyres when going round a roundabout....possible cause.... heavy right foot.

Low mpg / excessive fuel consumption......possible cause....heavy right foot.

Speedo only going to 140mph, it was designed to do that, needle going off the end a couple of times........possible cause.....heavy right foot.

If your car was a shed it would not be capable of doing 140mph and it is probably just a matter of time before plod decides to look after your license for you.

LOL, i think that just about summed up what i was trying to say, if in a slightly more to the point manner.

i have experienced simular problems before, needle seems to jam at 141 no matter how much track there is to play with.

setting off seems to produce a pendulum effect on the rear! i blame a good engine the autospastic boxes, reving up higher letting the turbo boost come in quicker but what a whatse.. far better off getting an M90!
