940 alarm going off on ignition
Hi.
sadly at the start of the year my father passed away, leaving his J reg 940 on my mothers drive. this week we attempted to start the car only to find that the battery was apparently stone dead (not too surprising) anyway. i connected it up the the battery charger and have attempted to put a little juice into it. however, after 3 hours or so of charging, we now have ignition lights (we had nothing at all before) but the alarm goes off when the ignition is turned. and turns off by itself the keyfob is dead and had been for several months prior to my fathers death so it is incapable of turning the alarm on or off. access was strictly by the drivers door lock. i read somewhere tonight that the alarm does go off if the battery voltage is very low when the ignition is switched on. is this actually true? or do we have another problem? i have disconnected no terminals and have just charged directly onto the in situ battery as advised by the garage my father always used. can anyone shed any light on this please? There is a fuse under the dash, drivers side under the steering wheel. Remove the fuse and then you will be able to start the car. This fuse disarms the alarm and the imobiliser, you will need to get new batteries for the key fob, then you may well have to re-pair the fob to the car.

ok the key fob is alas dead, not just batteries its the button mechanism thats given up the ghost.
i am reading in places of a "bonnet sensor" is this part of the alarm system? would it cause these symptoms? i ask because i had the bonnet down but not fully closed when we tested car (because of the charging cables) i cant test this now because its 11pm and the neighbours would definitely not appreciate the alarm going off. ok i managed to sort this out this morning by fixing the keyfob.
using the old tried and trusted "vauxhall" method of packing the inside over the switch with folded paper thanks to all who read and tried to help. Steve |
