Default ANOTHER tyres thread!!

I need to buy a new pair of tyres to go with the pair of part-worn Michelin Energys already on my alloys. As far as I'm aware, Energys aren't really a performance tyre, so can you see that causing problems?

Anyone had experience with any of these...

Goodyear Eagle Ventura
Pirelli P 6000
Bridgestone Potenza RE 040
Dunlop SP Sport 01
Continental PremiumContact
Michelin Energy E3A

My preferred choice are the Continentals, as these seem to be good value, and the ContiSport Contacts on Dad's 940 are outstanding.

Any thoughts?!

cheers

James

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - AVON ZV3.

I've always found them great on RWD Volvo's, they have good grip both wet and dry, are reasonably long lasting, and reasonably priced (£52 each fitted for 195/60/15, £56 for 205/55/15).

However, tyre choice is a personal thing and you must choose what suits you best; all I can do is offer a suggestion.

I found Goodyear F1's (same as Eagle?) far too soft and not fantastically grippy.

I was bitterly disappointed with Pirelli P6000 which seemed to break traction far too easily.

I find that the best combination (for me at least) of grip, life, comfort and price is the Conti Sport Contacts. I pay about £80 a corner for 205/50/WR16, so if anyone is getting them a lot cheaper then please let me know.

Cheers

We've paid £125 a corner for our CSCs at 205/55/ZR16...so I think you're getting a better deal than us!!

The local quotes I've got on Avons in general have been quite high, but I'll try again asking about that specific model!

cheers

James

The Avon quotes are from Britannia Tyres in Derby, I've found them by far the cheapest in my area.

That's where we got the Powerflow system put on the Micra! ATS and Kwik-Fit are the cheapest here so far...eek!

cheers

I had Continental Ecocontacts, but even on a 2.5l 10v they wore out at an alarming rate.
Now got Toyo Proxes which are superb.

EcoContacts are their cheapest normal model...that may have something to do with it? How soon is soon? The ContiSportContacts have worn very well, but then RWD and my dad's driving style has a lot to do with that...

cheers

I found Toyo's too easy wearing, although grippy.

Being a constant eater of front tyres, (5th set coming up in 17 months of ownership :( ) I use Uniroyal Rainsports, good grip in the dry, slightly better than Toyo's going by 60 ft times at Crail, outstanding in the wet, and last much longer, I did 2 trackdays on a set with negligable wear, bar the sidewall scuffing from some understeering

Reasonable cheap as well £85 fitted and balanced for the front pair, 195/50 15's
