Cypher,

Can't believe they had the cheek to try and charge you for this! Point them to this forum. Tell 'em this is the kind of publicity they can do without.

P.S. I have a 9 year old daughter who appears to be more handy at painting.

Present the proprietor with a letter before he re-does them saying that the wheels were not of merchantable quality when refurbished by them and you reserve the right to reject the new job or have it re-done by another company at their charge if it is not up to the standard expected.

Don't define that standard, leave it open.

Head the letter "without prejudice" and keep a copy, say also that you have "taken advice" and this letter is part of the result of that advice.

With any luck, the guy will assume that you're trouble, will probably reject the new job however good it is, and with very bad grace hand you a refund.

However if he takes the job on on the basis of the letter you've got 4 wheels at £55 a corner which you can reject or not (up to you).

Make sure that the job card or whatever receipt for the wheels they give you has reference to your letter on it and don't let them start work if it doesn't.

ALWAYS keep your temper with the guys and don't swear, but keep pointing out that the original job was not of merchantable quality and they are in breach of contract accordingly. Again, chances are they'll ring legal alarm bells and tell you to sod off with a refund.

If the second job comes back crap, hand the letter plus the job card plus the pics of the original job to the local TSO, and take any advice they offer - probably a small claims court prosecution.

Take copious pics of the wheels as they are now and if they come back crap second time around.

And I forgot to say that if the job DOES come back crap second time around, reject the wheels on the spot, referring them to your letter - if they won't let you take them away without payment, say (and write on the invoice) that you are paying for the wheels under protest.

Get your camera out in their reception and take pics - again, they'll probably give you all your money back if they have any commonsense.

Now, WHO ARE THEY? Saying who they are is not actionable as you haven't made any reference to their general competence, only the job they've done for you.

there Wheelrite of Gosberton. i was wondering if a member could phone them up posing as a person needing a refurb saying theyve got some bmw five spoke 17" wheels or something, and see how much he quotes then ask if thats for the whole wheel or face only. the reason for this is he didnt say he was only going to do the face only when i took them there, and i think he wants more money to a job hes already been paid for. if he says £45+vat for the whole wheel then ive got him.
