18" rims fit on AWD?
Hi all,
Must just say thanks to all who responded to my earlier post re-pcd's on V70's. Just about to order my new 17" Pegasus rims :9 , and I said to the guy "shame they weren't 18", but hey", to which he said "hey if you want 18's no problem" of course i want 18" (rims that is;-) ). But will they fit/foul in the arch's? The height of my 17" with 225/45/17 is 23.75", I have spoken to someone who has 18" Pegasus with 225/40/18 on his 855 T5R and the height is 23.5". Obviously with lower profile tyre the height should not change much, but will 1", make a difference? Has anyone fitted or know of anyone who has done this to their car. Thanks again guys, & Happy xmas to you all. :-)

RE: 18
Hi Howard
These are much ££££ in the UK, have you seen the price of them in the US? From memory about £250-£300 each!! Have you considered getting them from the US and importing them? Do you have a cheap UK supplier or are you paying full wack? Sorry VERY cheeky but they are very nice alloys and I NEED SOME, I don't want you paying over the odds for them what with your cat probs(?), donating all that money to Volvo. ;) |

RE: 18
Hi Howard,
Good to meet you at PE. Those rims are absolutely beautiful. They will fit yours no problem, the oprigional tyre would be 225/40/18. I used to have this size on my 18s, my speedo what out. To make it a little easier and also have a nice level of comfort, I put 215/40/18s. This was a lot better. The car was brought down about half an inch, so it made a big difference. You could go for 225/35/18 or 215/35/18s, I imaging the ride to be really harsh on 215 and may be similar on 225. Fortunately I know this cause I have tried them all out, you could say I go through a lot of tyres. Remember the wheels will be no problem it might give you grief on the comfort side. Also if you go for 225 then if you put a heavy load in it will rub the inside of the arch liners. I have experienced this also. Believe me this should not put you off in anyway, just make sure you have the correct tyre size. Good luck in your decision. speak soon Roy |

RE: 18
Hi.
The earlier cars never had 18" wheels as a standard fit hence the miniscule size of tyre you have to have to keep the speedo accurate. The C70 came with 18s as an official option with 225/40-18 tyres. This is the size tyre I have got. However to protect the rim a little more I will be going for 235/35-18 tyres next time. Have a look at the below link to sort out what size tyres you should have for a particular wheel size. It all depends on the original fitment. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Cheers, Dan. |

RE: 18
Hi Guys,
I have a set of Oz Hyda 17" x 8 with 215/45/17 fitted to an 850 T5 96 ,the car has been lowered by 35 mm and was causing me a problem when cornering hard ,i ended up having to get the inside wheel arches rolled back to allow for heavy loads and hard cornering, front is fine apart from a small rub on full lock. Hope this is useful Regards Jason |
