Very much so! On an old car I had a loose and knackered battery clamp which stopped the alternator from working. £5 to change clamp and it worked fine.

What about alternator belt?
How loose is it?
Does it have much play in it?

Can you get out the voltage stabiliser unit from the alternator and check the carbon brushes for good size (and contact)? Also check the commutator ring for build up of carbon dust between the copper strips.

I used a good old-fashioned multimeter to test my battery.
12v without engine running, 13.3v (or something like that) with engine on.

Have you checked fluid in the battery? Is the battery nackered?
If there tester says current is going to the battery ok, then maybe the battery is at fault for not holding the battery.

A car garage should test the battery for you.

If you are still having problems after checking battery.

Check the engine to bodywork earth strap with an ohm meter, a good earth should have low resistance.

Good Luck.
