Default XC90 lighting on centre console

The lighting on the number keyboard and the volume knob has failed on my '03 D5.

Somewhere I am sure I have read that early XC90's had individual bulbs for each section of the console and later ones had fibre optic lighting.

Can anyone confirm if this is right and which type my car may have? Is it a DIY repair?

Thanks

this is indeed a diy job.but getting the replacements is not straight forward.i went to the nearest main stealer and he could not even identify the correct ones which was a great help and the cost of some was cronic.what i did was get a spare dash from a scrapper off ebay and swapped all the duff ones for good ones.i even had some spare left over.almost all knobs and buttons have a seperate bulb but once the console is removed its easy to swap them.my xc90 is an 04.

Replaced one too (the upper part of the keyboard) and seem to recall that it is not just the bulb but it come with the bulb holder when order a replacement, cost was about a tenner, from memory.

thats correct the bulb and holder are in one piece.some are recessed and a pair of snipe-nosed pliars is a great help.

I've got the bottom of the phone keypad dark at the mo... Also lost the LHS of the CD slot... Volvo's VADIS shows just one part number for bulbs in the Infotainment Control Module (ICM) and that's 8673520 - Parts catalogue shows the bulb complete with holder...

Hope that helps...
