Dear DD,

Check that the flexible aluminium pipe from the exhaust manifold shield to the air inlet is in place and is in good condition. This feeds the engine with warm air and stops the carburetter iceing up. I drive 14 miles on the motorway every day. After about 12 miles my 340 would start to loose power and die, but, would pick up and accelerate if I used absolute full throttle. It was worse on damp cold days. I changed all the ignition parts, cleaned the carb etc but could not get rid of the problem. Eventually one day I pulled of the road and removed the top of the air filter to see down the carb. The primary choke in the carburetter was full of ice. The second choke was clear, but this only opens at full throttle, hence the dieing or full throttle power situation. My hot air pipe had split. Some duct tape around it cured my problem at least. It might cure yours.

Best Regards,

Len Morris
