Default 850-R Probs ..... and comments

Hi Peeps

Just bought an "N" 1996 850-r in BLACK a MIGHTY FINE BEAST and QUICK TOO ..... but i have a couple of questions thrown out to the experts on this forum .......

What are the specs on the BEAST ie 0-60,top speed, bhp, same engine/box etc as the T5-r etc etc etc .....

Mine has cross drilled discs on the front which look newish. These look either the same size or smaller than the discs at the rear should they not be BIGGER than the rear brakes ???.Having pushed my new tool for the first time i was braking for a round-a-bout from 115mph down to 40ish BUT within a couple of seconds experienced BRAKE FADE Arrrrgggghhhhh ,after which there was a really nasty BURNING BRAKE smell overwhelming the cabin. When i pulled over seconds later i tried putting my hand near one of the front wheels making no attampt to touch the discs i`m not that daft .. anyway .. there was an EMENSE amount of heat comming from the front discs yes there should be an amount of heat but not so much as to stop me putting my had near the alloy surely ?.If VOLVO produce a car this size and weight that will do these speeds you must supply it with the braking power to stop must you not ????.I know the crossed drilled discs are not standard but are supposed to be a performance upgrade to improve the brakes even further are they not ??? well in this case they have not worked.I`m thinking maybe the discs have been changed but the pads have not any suggestions/comments.I have also read here on this forum that the brakes off the V70-r are a major improvement are these a straight swap for the brakes on my 850-r ????.

Read here .. http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/dc/dcboa...2402&mode=full .. this is my original post.Since then i have wrote 2 letters to Volvo Car UK.The second reply i recieved stated that Volvo Car UK was willing to help towards putting me behind the wheel of another Volvo as a goodwill gesture. My car was inspected by Volvo passed with flying colours apart from a couple of niggly problems 1. the ABS warning light was on constantly this seems to be a common problem dogging late 850`s it would seem. The climate control was not operating to standard ( what exactly does this mean ?? ) these 2 faults were put down to loose wires which were rectified by the local Volvo dealer "Walker Farrimond of Accrington". Also the passenger door mirror glass wobbles when driving and the sunroof does not close properly at the back edge it sits about 3-4mm below the level of the roof causing wind noise is this adjustable ??. Since picking up the car the ABS warning light has come on again 3 times this fault goes away when the ignition is turned off and the car is restarted. As for the climate well this does not get cold at all it is no where near as cold as my last Volvo ( the burnt out wreck ) this was so cold i had to turn the heating back on on a few occasions within the 6 days of ownership any ideas ??.Volvo Car UK have also helped me in some other aspects of the car some of which have been done and some are getting done soon when parts permit.

Enough twisting for now apart from the faults listed it is a fantastic car i`m well pleased with SO....... extra preformance and handling ???.My car has 74,500 miles on it with FULL volvo history and apart from the brakes is standard so what can i do to increase the power whilst not comprimising the reliability or working the turbo too hard ??? and at what sort of price ???.I would be very happy with around 300bhp but would this compramise reliability ?? will the gearbox/clutch be able to handle the extra power ???.

Thanx and sorry for the length of this post i just got a little carried away ANYWAY thanx to all who read and reply .....
