Default 940 fuel injection/ pump

I think I may be narrowing down my running problems to fuel injection system. I just discovered the onboard diagnostic gizmo which gave a 1-1-3 code .. (I can't tell whether it's Jetronic or Bendix .. how can I find out?) indicating either fuel supply too weak/rich (Jetronic) or fuel injector fault (Bendix). Someone has suggested that a problem with fuel pump or fuel line could be the cause. Yesterday the engine ran really well for a few minutes on start up before becoming lumpy again, though it was driveable, if weak. Today I simply removed the injectors so as to check that all were squirting out petrol, and then replaced them. Now it is running extremely badly again and needs to be revved to stop it from stalling.

There is a pipe/ thickish lead attached via an octagonal nut to the fuel rail right next to no4 injector which I tugged at quite hard during cylinder head removal because it looked like a hose. I soon realized it has wires in it though. What is it? If I have damaged it, could it be affecting the performance of the main pump? How is the pump synchronized?

Yesterday I did notice a kind of squelching sound coming from under the car when it was running. Now I know that this was in the area of the fuel pump.

Any suggestions much appreciated .. the garage can't look at it until next week .. sometime!
