Default dashboard lights

Hi bought a new V70d pleased with the car, but every now and again the dash lights switch to a night illumination (regardless of the time of day) and will then switch back to normal has any one else had it happen? I will ask the dealer when it goes for it's 3K service

Question

Yes - this happened to me on Monday evening for the first time. Although it hasn't happened since and i put it down to one of those things. I will be interested to hear what the dealership say though.

Cheers

Hi

My car has done this since i first bought it, think they are supposed to, so that at night you are not dazzled by the sta nav, and lcd display etc I find it quite useful and not a problem. Probably designed to do it because at night you don't have to turn on the headlamps, I never do, on any other car when you turn on the lights the majority of the major interior dashboard lights dim, maybe not the speedo etc but you can turn them down if you want. Can't remember if it says anything in the handbook.

My current Audi A6 does something similar, if you drive under trees or similar the daylight sensor thinks its got a bit dark so it turns the instrument lights down low to remind you to turn the headlights on (thats what the manual says), fair enough, but it even does it when you have the lights set to auto so I don't understand why it thinks its dark enough to warn you by dimming the instrument light but not dark enough to automatically turn on the headlights! Hopefully the volvo will have more sense! (only 10 days now!)
