Philips X-treme Power + '05 S40
The pool of light is now noticably brighter, and I've manually adjusted my headlamps so that I can actually see the road ahead.
BUT I dont think Volvo really optimised the projector headlamps in the 04-07 S40/V50 for HALOGEN bulbs I had a set of the same Xtreme power bulbs on my previous car (A fiat grande punto) and they were absolutely fantastic. - Not so in the Volvo. My advice: If you own a 2007+ S40 without HID's, go out and buy some of the above bulbs, as Volvo stuck reflector headlamps in these newer S40's/V50's. If you own a 2004/05 S40 without HID's, go out and buy a HID kit. At around £30 a time these philips bulbs arent cheap, and they dont work to their full potential in the early S40/V50's so save your money for HIDs (I'll be doing so now). Just dont go sticking HID kits into reflector headlamps... |

even the projector lamps have reflectors .. Bi-xenon as well as halogen .. they are just much smaller , cost cutting no doubt :-)

I blame ford. Ever since I read on here that the S40 was based on the Ford Focus, I now see a ford focus sitting on my drive every morning. You can see the external similarities *cries*

Fenton, you'll have to drive a focus to realize there is a big difference between the two...
poor fella, how would he react if he knew that the 2.0D engine is a joint Ford/PSA "Peugeot Citroen" engine 2.0D, 2.0TDCi, 2.0HDi "almost" refer to the same engine. Regarding the lights, i have had those Philips bulbs for 6months, and i'm quite happy with'em, although i live on the continent and have a LHD car, i have the headlamps on both sides set on RHD and the projector ball pulled out of the socket and by that way i can see further. |

Even though the 2.0D is far too noisey and unrefined it pulls the S40 along really well to the point where im beginning to doubt that it only has 136bhp. Also to the quote in bold, what do you mean??? Take some pictures please! |

QUOTE] yes only 136 bhp , initialy when you drive one it seems full of power and torque and goes like a rocket around town , but out on the open road you realise it's only 136 bhp when you try and overtake 2 cars at once especialy up hill , not easy ..with a 2000 rpm power band .

I've tested this by drawing a line on flat ground with and without the socket detached, you gane about 2-3meters of fading light, with the ball out the light no longer has that clear cut dead end to it, instead it disperses and fades out gradually.
