Early 850 T5 Power?
Did the earliest T5s have an overboost facility?
How much does a good condition standard T5 make at the wheels? In my manual (car registered jan 95) it says that the engine will produce 225bhp or 240bhp for 30 seconds by way of overboost. As 30 seconds is an inordinatly long time this would make them effectively 240bhp all the time for road (or even track driving). In fact the only scenario I could invisage where you could exceed 30 secs continous max boost would be towing a caravan up an alpine pass! A friend however insists that the early t5s had no such facility- any one care to differ (check you manual!) Does the "850 T5-R 240bhp?" or "850R 250bhp?" overboost higher still? Otherwise they should produce the same power on the rollers.... Anyone? Tom |

RE: Early 850 T5 Power?
Standard 850 T5s produce 225 crank bhp.
ONLY T5Rs, have a look at www.t5r.org for some more info, have the overboost facility. T5Rs have the same engine (almost!!) as the standard T5 but will up the boost to 12 or 13psi for the 30 sec burst effectively making them 240bhp engines. 850Rs had a strengthened engine (which then went on to be used in the 70 series T5 engine). These produce a constant 250bhp, or 240bhp in the 70 series due to a lower boosted ECU. |
