Etm removale
hi all i`ve tried to remove the etm on my v70 2001,taken the 4 10mm bolts out but there is still a wire keeping it attached to what i dont know...and cant reach.My etm has a white sticker (says genuine volvo on) underneath is this a good thing or bad thing?everybody else seems to have a yellow sticker.Car has got 132,000 on clock with full service history,any advice would be most welcome.No problems with etm just thought id give it a clean as they say it gets greased up and requires cleaning every couple of years.

check this link white is old yellow is new/replacement i was wondering if it was possible as it doesnt look to difficult (4 bolts and swap for a new part ) take a piccy of where the wire dissapears to it may just be clipped tight to the block ? Quote:

On some models the starter motor has to be removed to release the cable.

I have a yellow sticker on my v70 xc, as my ETM was replaced 2 years ago, but my engine cuts out when using engine breaking and stopping at the bottom of a hill........so I am interested in the removal of the ETM to give it a good clean....thanks for the info

If you look down the centerline of the radiator straight down you will see a large(ish) electrical connector just behind the radiator attached to the cars structure, this is a quick release plug (but it can be a real sod to disconnect needing high levels of force). This is where the other end of the ETM cable is plugged in to the car!
I didn't bother removing the starter motor I simply cut the cable one core at a time, once the ETM was on the bench I re-soldered the colour coded wires back together before shrinking down some heat shrink sleeve over the joints and finally taping up the joint with self amalgamating tape - takes 5 minutes to do vs 2 hours pratting about removing the starter and it was raining! ETM was sorted by bba and the cars been driving great ever since - Mike |

the starter motor does not require removing,all you need to do is remove the support bracket at the rear of the starter,(2) - 10mm nuts and remove (1) - 12mm bolt from the block.then you can slide past the wiring loom.
if the cars running ok i would leave alone though !
