If you can find a good independant volvo specialist then i guess it would be between £20-40. They may even not charge for the code reading if you get them to fix the problem.

......my `98 V40 T4 CD was first reg. on 30th December 1998......i have the U480 OBD11 compliant scanner which i plug into the footwell diagnostic connector and it gives me the codes of what`s wrong so that i can replace the defective part....i am also able to erase the codes after my work is carried out .........my T4 does not solely need the volvo scanner done at the garage to get the codes......So what i am asking is why am i allowed to do this if it does not comply with those dates you have given?.......i am not arguing as you live too near mebut i would like to know if i am definately OBD11 compliant?...........or not.......

Your in the changover period for OBDII compliance, some cars will have the OBDII port but it won't be full compliant with the protocal hence the linking error. It's a bit hit and miss up until 2001 when compliance was necessary.

The turbo cars may well be compliant before mid 99 as they use the Seimens EMS 2000 ecu which is OBD2 capable, as to if all EMS 2000 cars are OBD2 compliant I dont know but they may well be.
