Default S40 cruise control

Hi. I dont know if its me being silly but i wander if anyone can answer the qusetion for me.

When i engage cruise control on my '55' plate s40 (cruise on caption is lit) there appears to be an increase in engine noise/power?? compared to me travelling at the same given speed and conditions when i have my foot on the pedal-in other words the car appears noisier.I have taken into account the cruise function accelerating/deccelerating to maintain commanded speed.

Is this increased noise an increase in engine power-the noise definitely has that sound and if it is an increased power noise would i be right in stating that my car is therefore using more fuel and therefore the car isnt as efficient on MPG as 'manual/foot' throotle control?????????????

Hope i got my point across

Mine has no extra engine noise when cruise is on and as a general rule cruise is no better or worse for MPG than your foot. If you're gas pedal heavy like me the cruise is a bit more efficient than my foot is.

I use mine quite a bit and have never noticed extra noise other than the obvious times when you are going uphill etc. Maybe an issue of some sorts.

You might have this impression because the chosen speed on your cruise control is a "border" speed between two gears. This will cause the car to keep the lower gear engaged (say 3rd instead of 4th) which looks like the engine has more revs. Try to slightly increase the chosen speed, and make sure your geartronic box is set on D - automatic.
