340 starting problem
Hi,
can anyone help me to find out whats causing my volvo 340 automatic not to start, its always been a very reliable car, but the other day after trying to start it about 5 times it just died, I thought it was the battery and managed to get someone to have a go with jump leads but to no avail, the starter would just give 1 turn and thats it, so I have charged my battery up, and when I try to start the engine it will turn maybe 2 or 3 times slowly and then theres this slight high pitched whine noise, anyone know what this is ? I don't know wether to buy a battery or a starter motor. any info is much appreciated. thankyou Bev&mart |

RE: 340 starting problem
Hi,
If you can start the car with a push or tow, then it sounds like the starter has expired. You can also check the motor be switching on all the lights and then operating the starter. If the lights dim significantly then the starter is drawing a lot of current and if it is not turning then a replacement would be needed. I hope this is of help Crunchie |
