Confusion about replacing a headlight
The lens on my 1999 V40TD has got a bad stone chip in and needs replacing.
On looking for a replacement I have come across a complete headlight unit or a replacement lens. Since there is £100 difference between the two I don't want to buy a whole unit when a new lens is all I need. Any ideas? Thank you in advance. Matt |

RE: Confusion about replacing a headlight
Hi I have a 1998 V40 T4, had a stone chip in my passenger side light, got a replacement lens glass from volvo main dealer for 50 pounds ish. Job is fairly easy, have to remove indicator, disconect wiring, including motor wiring for light leveller, remove two bolts in bumper (from underneath), losen bumper and wing to give extra clearance, remove four more retaining nuts on the side and back of headlight unit, now slide out light unit and carefully prise off lens clips, reverse procedure and job done.

RE: Confusion about replacing a headlight
Hi
Thanks for the replies. Managed to track a 2nd hand lens down for £30 inc VAT. A lot cheaper than a new unit. Apparently whole units are hard to find at breakers yards. Perhaps most newish cars at breakers yards have crash damage with the headlights the first to get broken. Thanks again Matt |

I would recommend getting headlight protectors. I have and they have saved two broken headlight glasses on my S40, to my knowledge. They cost about £25.
