V40 Engine Management Light
Dear anybody, I have just purchased a lovely base model V40, apparently it was the first to ever enter Ireland, it was brought over from Volvo for the motor show in 1996 and has got heated seats, crusie control, trip computer, foglamps, headlight wash/wipe, full electric pack and so on. The thing is that I noticed whilst reading the owners manual that the engine management light was not lighting on the dash, I replaced the bulb and it went out after about 5 secs, I thought this was cured however after leving the car running for about 5 mins the light came back on again, any one got any views as to what it might be. The other thing is that I have noticed a very annoying noise coming from what seems to be the back drivers side rear shock. like a squealing noise every time I hit a bump in the road. Again any ideas what this might be. And finally are all Volvos smoky as in white smoke, the same as you would get on a really cold day.
Any good contacts for second hand stuff, I am after roof rails and possibly a set of new age front lamps and indicators. |

Not sure on the other things but....
How much smoke are you getting? Remember that in 'perfect' combustion you have 1 litre of water for every litre of petrol used... Something to check is the oil, take off the oil filler cap and check that there isn't 'Mayonaise' in it. If you have it you will see what I mean instantly. It's when the oil mixes with water. When I got my V40 there was loads of white smoke under (very) hard acceleration, but no problems found. Lights: I looked into this for my car, but it seems they are very expensive and you have to alter the wireing. Others here can give much more info on that though. Good luck Stu |

RE: V40 Engine Management Light
Hi.
The dual unit clear headlamps cost approx £136 (GBP) each + 17.5% VAT. The indicators cost approx £35 + VAT each. The wiring needs altering to allow the dipped beam to remain on when the main beam is selected. For around £550 your dealer can do the whole thing for you. The direction indicators are a piece of cake to fit and you can do it your self in under two minutes. Cheers, Dan. |
